SECOND COLLECTION TODAY FOR RETIRED RELIGIOUS FUND

This weekend, the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be taken.  Please share in the care of our elderly religious by giving generously.  All of us are painfully aware of the rising cost of medical services and care.  Your gift will help to relieve a genuine crisis in many religious institutes.  Most importantly, please remember in your prayers the 200+ men and women religious living in the Diocese of San Jose.  Extra envelopes are available in the pews.

Amen.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

Before You Sell

Thinking of selling appreciated assets like stocks, bonds, property or a vacation home?  You may be able to do so without paying taxes, while increasing your income and, at the same time, making a great gift to St. Victor’s Parish.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite 301, Santa Clara, CA 95050.

Simbang Gabi

The theme is Jesus, the word made flesh – “The Leader and Perfecter of Faith” (Heb 12:2) Christmas is the time in the liturgical celebration of Jesus’ birth.  The Christmas Novena (nine-days) is in preparation for Christmas.  Our theme enables us to go back to the roots of our Christmas celebration thus helping us to place Jesus Christ as the center of Christmas and the reason for this beautiful season.  This ‘strong time’ in the Church’s liturgical calendar may then help us again to strengthen our faith and nourish our spiritual life, and fill us with the joy and meaning that only Jesus can give.

Our Love And Prayers Go Out To...

St. Victor’s Parish Community would like to extend their sympathy and prayers to the families and friends of Federico Eslao, Joanne Gleason, Lorie Magsuci, Kathy Neves and Edward Sierra, who recently passed away.

SPECIAL NOTICE: The Diocesan Insurance Company does not permit parking in the back parking lot (hall, parish center area) after the 8:00 A.M. weekday Masses due to the presence, and for the safety of St. Victor’s School children.  Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.

                                                   SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES...

U.n.I. LORD TEENS WINTER SERVICE PROJECT. If you have clean, gently used coats (men’s sizes most needed), clean blankets or towels, they can certainly be put to good use.  The U.n.I. Lord Teen Group will be accepting your clean donations for shelters throughout this winter.  New socks are needed too. Please drop off your donation at the CM or Rectory Office between 8:00 A.M.–4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.  God bless you for your consideration to the needy of our community.

NEEDY FAMILY.  Our St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers are working with several families in our parish community in need of a twin bed set, crib, several dressers, a woman’s bicycle and ladies warm coat size 13. If you are able to help, please call the Rectory Office @ 251-7055.  THANKS to the parishioners who donated a dresser and washer to a family in need.

EASTSIDE F.I.S.H. food collection is next weekend.  Please bring your non-perishable food donations (peanut butter, tuna, canned vegetables & fruit, macaroni & cheese, etc.) and place them in the wooden box in the vestibule of the Church.

EASTSIDE F.I.S.H. HOLIDAY NEEDS. EASTSIDE F.I.S.H. will again be accepting your donations of turkeys, chickens and hams. Call the Rectory Office @ 251-7055 to arrange delivery/pick-up.  Please DO NOT leave any perishable foods in the FISH box in the Church vestibule.  We wish to THANK our supporters for their donations throughout the year.  Our clients directly benefit from your generosity.

THE GIVING TREE. Parishioners are invited to take a tag from the GIVING TREE in the vestibule representing a needy individual of our parish community. Please purchase a gift and return the gift unwrapped with the tag attached, to the designated box in the vestibule.  [The tag is the only way that our volunteers have of identifying the family/individual. The tags also indicate sizes for clothing; however, if you wish to purchase another type of item, please feel free to do so.]  Please return the gift by next Saturday, December 20th, so that our St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers have time to sort, box and distribute them to all of the families before Christmas.  (Please return the gifts during the weekend Masses only!)  A SPECIAL THANK YOU to those who are called and will be assisting as “extra hands:’ delivering the gifts this year.  Our St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers appreciate your help!

For information or for an application to St. Victor’s School, please call the School Office @ 251-1740.

THERE WILL BE A SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND FOR THE POOR.

THESE FUNDS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO SEVERAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS.

Bradley James will be selling his CD’s after Masses next weekend.  He will also be singing next weekend after Communion at the Saturday 5:00 P.M. Mass, the Sunday 9:15 A.M. and 12:15 and 5:00 P.M. Masses.

MULTICULTURAL CHRISTMAS SEASON CELEBRATIONS

Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community and culture.  Celebrated from December 26th through January 1st, its origins are in the first harvest celebrations of Africa from which it takes its name.  The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits” in Swahili, a Pan-African language, which is the most widely spoke African language.

Posadas - Christmas for Mexicans, in traditional home and rural areas, is a religious holiday.  It is a celebration of the nativity.  In order to prepare for the day of symbolic commemoration, they have the Posadas (an enactment of St. Joseph and the Virgin Mary looking for lodging, who were pilgrims going to Bethlehem for the census according to the Scriptures). This celebration is a novena from December 16th-24th with the 24th being the Noche Buena or Holy Night.

Simbang Gabi – a Filipino tradition, is a nine-day novena – Mass at Dawn to the Blessed Mother.  The novena begins on December 16th and culminates with the ‘Misa de Gallo” on Christmas Eve to welcome the birth of our Savior.  In some Churches, the panuluyan is reenacted, showing the effort of Joseph and Mary to find a suitable birthplace.

“Rejoice in the Lord always.”  (TH 1:46)
