Stained Glass

Our Lord Jesus Christ The King - November 21-22, 2009

Poverty in America is on the rise – nearly 40 million Americans live below the poverty line.  But, we can reverse the trend by rekindling the spirit of community with those in need, by joining in solidarity to break the cycle of poverty. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports self-help projects of poor and low-income people working together to improve their lives and their communities.  (In our Diocese, several local self-help community-organizing groups have received grants.)  Please give generously to CCHD in today’s second collection.  Extra envelopes are available in the pews.

A special Mass for this occasion will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24th, at 7:30 P.M.  This is bilingual and parish-wide celebration, all parishioners are welcome.  Please come to learn more about the 117 martyrs (St. Andrew Dung-Lac, priest and martyr, and his companions & martyrs).  Light refreshments will be served after Mass.

There is so much for which to be thankful for, if only we look to see.  So much, that perhaps we have taken it for granted.  As has been our custom at St. Victor’s, we again ask that non-perishable food items be brought to Mass on THANKSGIVING DAY, and that they be presented at the altar during the offertory procession at each Mass.  Your gifts will be accepted by our St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers, and put into baskets for distribution to the needy of our neighborhood throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday seasons. St. Victor’s St. Vincent de Paul Society will also be accepting monetary donations. Thank you!

All parish Offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 26th & 27th.   On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26th), Masses will be celebrated at 8:00 and 9:30 A.M.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Welcome to all of our visitors. We hope that you enjoy your time and celebration with us.

Parish Adult Communal Reconciliation Service

All parishioners are invited to an Adult Parish Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, December 9th, at 7:30 P.M. in the Church.  The service will include scripture readings, time for reflection and individual confession and absolution.  Come and experience the sacrament of Reconciliation in the community setting during this season of Advent.  REMINDER: Please remain in the Church until the end of the service for the communal penance.

Remember St. Victor’s Parish In Your Plans

It is easy to remember St. Victor’s Parish in your estate plans, will, trusts, insurance policies, or retirement plans.  Please use the following wording: “To the Roman Catholic Bishop of San Jose, a California corporation sole, for the benefit of St. Victor’s Parish.”

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: Diocese of San Jose, the Chancery, 1150 N. First St., Suite 100, San Jose, CA 95112-4966.

Small toys are needed for the civilian children who enter the medical clinic.  Suggested items: beanie babies or small stuffed animals (no dogs, cats or pigs - they are considered “dirty” animals there), PEZ dispensers and candies, baby dolls (except “Barbie dolls – too immodest dress for Afghani standards), Hot Wheels, coloring books with crayons and small toys that do not require batteries (toy soldiers, GI Joes, etc. would be inadvisable).  These items may be dropped off at the Rectory Office by December 5th, we have a special mailing address for these items.  Monetary donations to enable us to mail these items would also be appreciated.  Please make checks payable to St. Victor’s Church and place it in a plain white envelope marked Father Michael Children’s Gift Postage and drop it in the collection basket or take it to the parish office.

Simbang Gabi

MARK YOUR CALENDARS. St. Victor’s Parish Community will celebrate Simbang Gabi (pre-dawn worship), also called Misa de Gallo (rooster Mass) from December 16th-24th.  (The schedule will be inserted into the bulletin on December 6th and 13th).

CONGRATULATIONS to our newly installed Altar Servers as they begin to assist with Masses.

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS for the weekend of November 28th-29th must be submitted to the Rectory Office by 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 24th.

This Sunday, November 22nd, St. Victor’s U.n.I. Lord Teens will be sponsoring their 14th annual BAKE SALE after the 7:00, 8:00, 9:15 and 10:45 A.M. and 12:15 P.M. Masses.  All items cost $5.00 each.  The teens hold this fundraiser each year to help those in need during the holiday season.  [In the past, they have been able to provide holiday meals, groceries for several weeks, new coats or clothing and Christmas toys and decorations for their adopt-a-family.]  Thank you in advance for your generous support of St. Victor’s Teens. God bless you.

THE APPARITIONS OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE: All are welcome to the annual celebration of The Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which will take place on Sunday, December 6th, at 2:00 P.M. in the Santa Clara University Mission Church.  The performance commentary will be in both Spanish and English.  A reception will follow in Benson Center.  This wonderful re-enactment is made possible through the collaboration of Teatro Corazon of Sacred Heart Parish and Santa Clara University students.  Admission is free and open to all.

Donations to the Church may be made monthly by credit card or checking account transfers.  Parish Pay is now available at St. Victor’s.  You may access the web site @ and click on DONATE or call toll-free @ 1-866-727-4741 and give them the information over the phone.  If you have any questions, you may also call the Parish Office @ 251-7055.

Rest In Peace

EASTSIDE F.I.S.H. HOLIDAY NEEDS.  With the holiday season approaching, EASTSIDE F.I.S.H. could use donations of turkeys, chickens, or hams.  Please keep us in mind when the grocery stores are having their promotions.  If you can help, please call the Rectory Office @ 251-7055.  To those who have supported us during the year - MANY THANKS AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU!

“Congress continues to debate health care reform legislation.  While the U.S House passed a health care bill that prevents the federal government from funding elective abortions, the u.s. bishops remain deeply concerned about Senate action, especially as it will affect abortion funding, conscience rights, affordability for the poor and vulnerable, and accessibility for immigrants.”  More information may be found on the bulletin board in the vestibule or visit .

Thank You...

To all those who supported the Girl Scouts the last couple or weekends.  They had a “sold out” success.  Thanks also to the Couples for Christ, who volunteered to cook meals for our priests.

A Thanksgiving Prayer: As we gather’round this table, as we pray for one and all, we are grateful for this moment and for blessings, great and small.  May they spread to all the nations on this special day of grace.  May Your love surround our family.  May Your goodness bless this place.                                                                                                                                  (Julie Rattey)
