29th Sunday in Ordinary Time - World Mission Sunday - October 17-18, 2009

The latest letter from Father Michael - click here

We know how blessed we are in our faith, in times of sorrow, in times of worry, in times of joy.  Christ calls us to share this gift with those who are close to us, and the entire world. Today, World Mission Sunday, we pray in a special way, that all may know the nearness and love of Christ.  Our second collection for World Mission Sunday will help support the church’s missionary work throughout the world and in our home missions.  Please be as generous as you can in sharing the gift of faith you have received.  Extra envelopes are available in the pews.

Father Tom Allender, SJ will hold a Life’s Journey Parish Mission, Anger to Forgiveness, beginning Monday, October 19th.   Father Allender will preach at all Masses this weekend, October 17th & 18th, and preach Monday-Wednesday, October 19th-21st, at 8:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M.

CM is looking for those who are interested in sharing their faith, time and talents with our students.  We are looking for teachers for the Wednesday program for 4th, 5th & 6th Sacrament and 5th Grade. Training will be done by the CM Office.  As always, there are guidelines that need to be followed. Please prayerfully consider this most important ministry. For more information, please leave a message for Anne in the CM Office @ 251-0165.

FAITH FORMATION CONFERENCE – Register today for this conference, “Word of God – Coming to Life,” on Friday and Saturday, November 20th & 21st, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara. A few registration brochures are available in the CM Office (251-0154) or online at their website -

We would like to THANK our parishioners for their generosity and participation in the Annual Diocesan Appeal and the Capitol Campaign. We encourage you to continue to fulfill your pledges, as any funds collected over the Diocesan goals will be returned to St. Victor’s.  These funds need to be mailed to their offices by December 15th, as they will be closing their books.

MARK 10:46-52

Your Friend, the Codicil

You can easily change your will to benefit St. Victor’s Parish. All you need to do is have a codicil that adds to or modifies something in your will.  Codicils are effective, inexpensive and easy.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168 or write to him at: Diocese of San Jose, The Chancery, 1150 N. First St., Suite 100, Santa Clara, CA 95112-4966.

All Souls Day

All Souls Day is Monday, November 2nd.  The All Souls intentions will also be remembered throughout the month of November.  “It is holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead.” (2 Maccabees 12, 46)  All souls remembrances should be returned to the parish office by 9:00 A.M. on October 30th (weekend envelopes may be dropped in the collection basket).  Extra All Souls envelopes are available in the pews.

Mass on All Souls Day will be celebrated at 8:00 A.M.  The School will celebrate an “All Saints Mass” at 10:00 A.M.

St. Victor’s Knights of Columbus will meet you after Masses this weekend. The Council will be handing out free Tootise Rolls and asking for your support in any form to help organizations that assist people with intellectual disabilities right here in our own community.  We need your help to help those who need it the most!  Thank you!

Catechetical Ministry Holiday Fund-raiser

The U.n.I. Lord Teen Group is asking for 18 used adult-sized baseball gloves that will be sent to our troops in Afghanistan along with baseballs and bats. They will be used for our troops when they have time for a little R&R.  Please drop them off at the Rectory Office.  God bless you for your support.

THANKS to all who continue to bring in hygiene supplies and new socks.  They are still needed.  We will be collecting clean used coats and jackets ONLY in November.  Please check your closets.  Again, we will be collecting coats and jackets only – no other clothing will be accepted.  Please give those other items to another charity.

U.n.I. Lord Teens invite all our preschool through 5th grade children to a COSTUME PARTY on Sunday, October 25th, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. in the parish hall.  Parents must accompany their children during this event.  If you have any questions, please call Sharron Hollenbeck in the CM Office @ 251-0154.
