SECOND COLLECTION TODAY FOR ETHNIC MINORITIES AND LATIN AMERICA
Almost half of the people in Latin America live in poverty, and half of these men, women and children are extremely destitute. Yet for many of them, the lack of income, basic sanitation and decent housing is compounded by spiritual poverty. The collection for the Church in Latin America funds projects throughout Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, that bring marginalized people more fully into the life of the Church. Your gift to this collection provides greatly needed pastoral care and religious training to rural communities and indigenous populations, helping to enrich people's faith with genuine Catholic teaching.
2008 ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL
Secure the Vision
We're off to a GREAT start! It's certainly not too late to make your pledge for 2008. Simply use the form and envelope mailed to you some weeks ago. In case it has been misplaced, please use the envelopes that are available in the pews. Please give this matter your most careful and prayerful attention. The need is great and we hope that EVERYONE will help. Your parish priests and fellow parishioners are DEEPLY GRATEFUL to those who have already pledged support to this year's Annual Diocesan Campaign. Watch our progress toward our goal as posted in the vestibule of the Church.
PARISH MISSION
Nationally renowned author and preacher, Father Tom Allender, SJ, will give a very unique Parish Mission called "Life's Journey" on January 21, 22 & 23 here in St. Victor's Church. Father Tom will give talks twice a day (after the 8:00 A.M. Mass and again at 7:00 P.M.) on topics of spirituality for the imperfect, helping us recognize that God loves us unconditionally. Father Tom will be speaking at all Masses this weekend, January 19th & 20th. [Babysitting will be available for the evening sessions in the Parish Center for children ages 4-12.] Call the Rectory Office @ 251-7055 for more information about this exciting event.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES
Life Insurance Gifts
It is easy to turn an old life insurance policy into a nice gift to St. Victor's Parish, and a possible tax deduction. Simply transfer it to, "The Roman Catholic bishop, a California Corporate Sole, for the benefit of St. Victor's Parish." It is even easier to add the Parish as a beneficiary to a policy. Because you can always change this, there is no tax deduction for including the Church as a beneficiary.
If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance. Call the Development Office @ 983-0243, or write to them at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite 301, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR'S HOLIDAY
"Everyone can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, all parish offices will be closed on Monday, January 21ST. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 A.M. that morning.
CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS
Those families who use the parish envelope system will soon be receiving their statements of contribution(s) for determining the amounts given by each family in Regular, Special and Development Fund collections. These statements are done out of courtesy for you and are very useful in preparing your income tax returns. We thank you for your continued support and generosity.
PLEASE NOTE: Any Catholic Foundation contribution statements will be mailed to you directly from their Diocesan Office.
SCHOOL APPLICATIONS - OPEN HOUSE
Applications for St. Victor's School for the 2008-09 school year are now available in the School Office from 8:00 A.M.-3:30 P.M. and online @ www.school.stvictor. Please join us at Open House on Sunday, January 27th from 10:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M. Please call 251-1740 for more information.
Dear Friends of St. Victor's School,
On January 27th-February 2nd, we will be celebrating our annual observance of Catholic Schools Week, the time set aside each year to celebrate Catholic education. We'll spend the week marveling at the success of the nation's 7,800 Catholic schools, the excellence of our students and the difference we make in our communities.
This year's theme, "Catholic Schools Light the Way," combines the concepts of God's light in the world and the light of knowledge we strive to kindle in our students. It represents the special role of Catholic schools and teachers in lighting the way through a faith-based education that supports the whole child in learning about and leading a fulfilled life.
You are welcome to visit our classrooms and meet our teachers and students during our Open House next Sunday, January 27th, from 10:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M.

In Celebration
This week's Sanctuary flowers were donated by Reynaldo and Marissa Gacad in celebration of their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations!
Prayers for the
Sick
Please pray for the sick, seriously ill and hospitalized members of our parish community and those who are preparing for surgical procedures and tests, especially Bill Batand.
PARISH REGISTRATION. Registration means "filling out a census card." Unless you have registered, we have no record of your presence in our parish. If you get no mail from the rectory or envelope service, you may conclude that you have not registered. Please stop by the rectory office during regular office hours (Monday-Friday from 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.) and fill out a census card, or call the Parish Office @ 251-7055 and we will be happy to mail you one. If you are registered, it makes it easier to obtain letters of recommendation, for sponsorship for sacraments, etc. Please also consider using the weekly envelope system, which will automatically be ordered for you from our envelope service. (They should start to arrive around a month after you have registered.) For those who choose not to use envelopes, we have no record of attendance at Mass or contributions and are unable to send end of the year statements regarding contributions for your tax records.
